Baslers have a long tradition of producing fine beer and one of the better known Basel breweries was called Warteck located on the small side of Basel. Warteck beer was first brewed in 1856 and changed hands many times over the years. In 1989 the Warteck brewery changed hands once more and was taken over by Feldschlösschen Beverages Ltd.  Today,  Feldschlössen and many other local Swiss breweries are now owned by the multinational Carlsberg Group.
